General Information (Frequently Asked Questions)

Why is the credit union doing this computer system upgrade?

For over twenty-five years, Deseret First has used the same computer system to keep track of your account information, process your loans, and handle your transactions. The current system, while reliable and secure, does not allow us to innovate and bring you the products and services that can serve you best.

What will this new system do better than the old one?

The new system will allow us to bring you the latest in credit union products and services, like an upgraded online account and phone teller. It will also allow us to streamline our operations so that we can serve you more efficiently and with more personalized attention. We will also be able to provide you with the latest security features to keep your accounts and identity secure.

What happens if the upgrade fails? Is everything properly backed up and tested?

Deseret First has already successfully tested the upgrade by switching to our new system three different times, so it is highly unlikely that our final upgrade in November will fail.

However, if for some reason the upgrade does fail, all of your account information, balances, transaction histories and so on are safely backed up on our legacy system along with multiple redundancies as required by federal regulations. We would then continue to use our legacy system to process your transactions until the upgrade is completed.

Is the CU going to have additional staffing to help answer questions during the conversion?

Yes. We anticipate that members will have questions about the upgrade and accessing their accounts after the upgrade. We have hired and trained several people to help members with whatever questions they may have. We will also re-assign back office personnel to help answer member phone calls.

Even with this additional staffing, we may experience a very high call volume and slightly longer wait times for the first few days after the upgrade. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your patience during this upgrade. If you have questions, please refer to this Frequently Asked Questions page which will be updated regularly.

How will the statements be different?

Statements will appear different but will contain the same information that you are used to seeing. We will include a diagram of statement changes with your November statements.

Will my current debit, credit and ATM cards work after conversion?

Yes. Your debit, credit and ATM cards will work as usual after conversion. There is no need to replace your cards.

Do I have to get new checks?

No. Your current checks will work just fine after the upgrade.

I use the Service Centers to access my accounts. What number will I give them to process my transaction?

For personal accounts, use your member number (see FAQ #4).
